The Mid-Wales and South Wales branches are supporting the free public day at the World Robotics Sailing Championships 2012, which is taking place in Cardiff on Friday 21st September. Come along to the event to find out more about the current state of the art in autonomous sailing robots.
One day autonomous sailing boats might be used for a variety of tasks, including listening for marine life, oceanographic monitoring or tracking pollution. The Championships are designed to get more people building these boats, to race them against each other and to demonstrate their remote sensing and collision avoidance capabilities.
The organisers are inviting members of the public to the last day of the championships, when they will have the collision avoidance event, a short race for all boats and another race for the boats built during the week. The organisers will be on hand to answer any questions you might have.
The public event is at Cardiff Bay Yacht Club, Empire Way, Cardiff from 10am to 4pm on Friday 21st September.
To register for the public event, please register for your free ticket at: wrsc2012.eventbrite.co.uk – also, please pass on this announcement to anyone you think may be interested.
If you cannot attend the public day it may be possible to attend as a public member for free on one of the other days. Please contact Dr. Colin Sauze (firstname.lastname@example.org) to discuss further.
